Benefits of private yoga

October 22, 2013

When I tell people I'm a yoga teacher, so many of them respond by telling me that they practice yoga too or by saying, "I need to get back to yoga," complete with a dreamy look toward the past on their faces. This tells me that there are a lot of people out there who have practiced yoga before. In fact, a study released in 2012 by Yoga Journal shows that 20.4 million Americans practice yoga, representing 8.7 percent of U.S. adults[1]. The data also shows that if you aren't already practicing, then you are really interested in starting. Of the people who aren’t practicing, 44.4 percent of them call themselves "aspirational yogis"—people who are interested in trying yoga.

Many people don't start practicing yoga because their schedule makes it difficult to commit, or maybe they have an injury they think would prevent them from being able to practice. There are also people who feel sort of funny practicing yoga in a class because they think they will look stupid not knowing the poses already. Private yoga is the best way to get personalized attention from a yoga teacher and it is an especially good option for people with busy schedules, injuries and other health conditions.

In a private yoga session, your teacher can work with you to develop a practice that meets your goals and is unique to your body and lifestyle. The teacher can help modify poses to accommodate injuries and health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, anxiety, etc. A private yoga session also helps create a yoga schedule that you know you will stick to, regardless of how busy your schedule gets.

How often do we just not show up for a doctor's appointment or personal training session? Getting your private yoga on the calender is just the thing some people need to make it happen consistently.
